The rebar detailer is responsible for the accurate and precise detailing of reinforcing steel in concrete construction. Rebar detailing is a very specialized field with a large number of details that must be done precisely to ensure that the reinforcing steel is properly anchored and spaced. The rebar detailer works closely with the structural engineer and architect to ensure that the reinforcing steel is installed correctly. They are responsible for installing reinforcing steel in concrete forms, below grade walls, pressure-treated wood forms, and other building structures.
The rebar detailer will inspect the reinforcing steel, remove corrugated or bent reinforcing that is not accurate, and pull out any broken or loosely fastened wire. They will measure the distance from each wire to the nearest adjacent wire in both directions. The rebar detailer may also install new ties if necessary to maintain correct spacing of reinforcing steel. Concrete Finisher The concrete finisher will wash the surface area of the poured concrete, remove all excess aggregate, smooth and level, and clean up the surface. They may also apply admixtures on request, blend in texture if needed to create a consistent finish on a large area of poured concrete, or provide other necessary finishing touches.
The rebar detailer must also be an expert at working with rebar (steel bars) to ensure that it is placed perfectly in all concrete forms. This can be done by using a rebar manipulator or an RMC (rebar cutting machine) which cuts and shapes the steel bars so they can be accurately inserted into concrete without the need of cutters. This is the part of the job that requires the most concentration and skill, so it is important for a rebar detailer to be able to focus on this task without being distracted. They must also have good hand-eye coordination, because they need to visualize exactly where the rebar should go before it can be inserted into concrete. On a project, rebar detailers may also be required to use a trenching machine to make the concrete wall thicker. Rebar details have a very important function in construction, because they support and reinforce concrete beams and columns that are part of building foundations.
The work processes vary depending on the location and job sites. At a construction site, rebar detailers have to prepare rebar forms, design concrete. patterns, direct concrete placement and maintain the quality of the completed concrete work. The rebar detailers are responsible for preparing rebar slabs at a construction site. They use a variety of cutting tools to cut off square pieces from long lengths of steel bars and make them ready for insertion into concrete forms. The form is needed because it can be filled with concrete. and sit on the ground with a flat surface, providing a place for rebar to be inserted. After the concrete is poured, the rebar detailers remove excess concrete, and smooth it out to make sure it is level and straight. The work process at a manufacturing company may vary depending on what part of the company they are working in.
